- Maintain a Maranatha Mentality
The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
(1 Peter 4:7 NASB)
Do
this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken
from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The
night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside
the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave
properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual
promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the
Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its
lusts. (Romans 13:11-14 NASB)
Blessed
is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed
the things which are written in it; for the time is near. (Revelation 1:3 NASB)
- Get Your Head on Straight
Sound judgement
For
the overseer must be above reproach as God's steward, not self-willed,
not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of
sordid gain, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just,
devout, self-controlled, holding fast the faithful word which is in
accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in
sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. (Titus 1:7-9 NASB)
Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. (Titus 2:2 NASB)
so
that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love
their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being
subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be
dishonored. (Titus 2:4-5 NASB)
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; (Titus 2:6 NASB)
For
the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live
sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the
blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior,
Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless
deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous
for good deeds.
(Titus 2:11--14 NASB)
- Be Alert
"Then
the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their
lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish,
and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took
no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their
lamps. Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and
began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, 'Behold, the
bridegroom! Come out to meet him. ' Then all those virgins rose and
trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the prudent, 'Give us some of
your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the prudent answered, 'No,
there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers
and buy some for yourselves.' And while they were going away to make the
purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with
him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins
also came, saying, 'Lord, lord, open up for us.' But he answered,
'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' Be on the alert then, for you
do not know the day nor the hour. (Matthew 25:1--13 NASB)
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NASB)
Lions know who the weak animals are on the fringes, and that is who they target. Satan is the same way.
My
brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him
back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way
will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
(James 5:19-20 NASB)
- Pray all the Time
You
husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way,
as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a
fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be
hindered. (1 Peter 3:7 NASB)
